Action will be taken against the corrupt Registrar who tried to close the main building of Savitribai Phule Pune University and embezzled the university fund for a personal salary increase.

Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr. Sanjeev Sonawne has assured that he will present both the subjects before the University Management Council.

Press media live :

Pune : A sit-in agitation was organized at Savitribai Phule Pune University yesterday demanding an immediate halt of the work that could've lead to the closure of the university's main building and sending the corrupt registrar on compulsory leave to recover the embezzled fund. Aam Aadmi Party spokesperson Dr. Abhijit More, Deepak Jadhav, Rohan Rokade, Adv Dattatraya Bhange, Nilesh Wanjle, Akshay Shinde, Adv Ashish Tamhane, Satish Pawar, Shrikant Mishra, Suresh Devdhe, Mahavir Sable, Anil Gaikwad, Kamlakar Shete and many more were present.

The closure of the premises of Savitribai Phule Pune University could've prevented the students and citizens from entering, which is completely illegal and anti-student. Pune Municipal Corporation had postponed this work, but the Pune University Secretary started anyway. Upon hearing this news, activists of Aam Aadmi Party and Aji-Maji Student Study Group reached the spot and started a sit-in agitation on the road to stop the construction immediately.

Previously, then Vice-Chancellor Dr. Karmalkar had informed that the work had already been cancelled previously due to pressure from the student unions. Nevertheless, it suddenly resumed yesterday. But following the agitation, Dr. Sonawane ordered the workers to halt.

Under the University Act, misappropriation of university funds is a serious offense. The higher education department has sent a letter to the Registrar Dr. Praful Pawar who is alleged to illegally have a salary hike of Rs 50,000 a month for three years. Therefore, he should immediately get released from his duties. All the amount expropriated should be recovered and a case must be filed against him, the protesters demanded.

They also had a detailed discussion with the Pro Vice Chancellor Dr Sonawane, who affirmed them of taking strict actions against the corrupt secretaries who illegally closed the main building of the university and embezzled the university funds. A decision would be taken by the next management council, he said. After that, the sit-in movement was withdrawn.
