Seminar on Gender Diversity and Inclusivity held

Pune :Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed to be University's New Law College Pune, under the Gender Sensitization Cell organized a seminar on Gender Diversity and Inclusivity: Special Reference to LGBTQIA+ on September 4, 2023. 

The seminar was an interactive and Insightful session created and commenced by Shyam (Samuel) Konnur, Founder Mist Foundation. Dr. Ujwala Bendale, Dean & I/C Principal, New Law College, Dr. Jyoti Dharm, Vice Principal, Dr. Rajlakshmi Wagh, Faculty In-charge and Divya Saxena, Faculty coordinator, Gender sensitivity cell were present. 

Shyam Konnur has been working in the field for the past 15 years. Throughout the event Law students, irrespective of their classes, asked questions, and shared some of their thoughts which were answered by  Shyam Konnur. 

This event was organized under the support of Dr. Ujwala Bendale, Dean & I/C Principal, Dr. Jyoti Dharm, Vice Principal and was an initiative taken by Dr. Rajlakshmi Wagh, Faculty In-charge and Divya Saxena, Faculty coordinator, Gender sensitivity cell. 

Shyam primarily dealt with the difference between Sex, Gender and Sexuality of a person and focused on the fact that one does not need to know everything about the gender or sexuality of a person, they just need to accept them and respect them for who they are. He pointed out that treating every human equally irrespective of their sexuality or gender is a way to the Perfect world. 

Further Dr. Ujwala Bendale, Dean & I/C Principal, New Law College discussed points like how the work of a lawyer is no more limited to litigation and corporate jobs and the role of every law student in making a more inclusive society through their research. She further motivated students to think critically and write research papers and discussed how New Law College, Pune will be coming up with more sessions in future where students can indulge in more insightful discussions about Gender Diversity and Inclusivity.
